Professional Journey
I started in 2008 as a community health coordinator in Galway, watching older adults transform through movement. That's when I realized dance wasn't just exercise — it was connection, confidence, and joy all rolled into one. Within months I'd committed to formal training.
I earned my Diploma in Dance Movement Therapy from the Irish College of Health & Wellness in Dublin, completing the program in 2011. That foundation changed everything about how I approach teaching — it's not about perfect technique, it's about how movement makes people feel. The science backed up what I'd already seen in community centers: dance improves balance, cognition, mood, and social connection in ways few other activities can match.
The Galway monthly salsa socials started small — about 12 people in 2012. Now we're at 80+ participants most months, with a waitlist. I've since established kizomba workshops in Killarney, Dublin, and Cork, and I'm deeply involved in curating the annual Killarney Summer Dance Festival. Over 200 events organized means I've learned what works, what doesn't, and how to make sure every dancer — regardless of age or experience — feels genuinely welcome.
The biggest barrier I see isn't ability or age — it's information. Seniors tell me they don't know where to find events, they're unsure what to wear, they're nervous about showing up alone. So I started writing detailed, honest guides. Not generic advice, but real event reviews and beginner-friendly walkthroughs based on what I've actually experienced organizing these gatherings across Ireland.

I've built judgment-free spaces because I know how it feels to be nervous about joining something new. Whether you've danced your whole life or you're stepping on a dance floor for the first time at 65, you belong here. Perfection isn't the goal — connection and joy are.
Dance is fundamentally social. I've designed every event I run — from monthly socials to large festivals — around bringing people together. You're not competing against anyone. You're dancing with friends, making new ones, and discovering that movement connects us across age, background, and experience.
I write because I've heard the same concerns from hundreds of people: "Where do I go?" "What's it actually like?" "Will I fit in?" My guides are detailed and honest because you deserve to know exactly what you're walking into. No hype, no generic advice — just what I've learned through 16 years of doing this work.
The science is clear: dance improves balance, coordination, memory, mood, and social connection. But more than that, it gives people a sense of purpose and joy. That's why I focus on making dance accessible for older adults. It's not frivolous — it's genuinely one of the best things people can do for their health.
Whether you're looking for your first salsa social, exploring summer festivals, or curious about kizomba, I've written detailed guides to help you find your dance community across Ireland.
